With a tarnished reputation from giving services in return for saving, Mercy Lyndhurst thought that she would be forced into a life of prostitution – at the very least she’d be the earl’s mistress. However, when she finds herself as the Countess of the earl’s estate and promptly abandoned, she has to learn to find her own way in the world. Things are never as easy as they seem, and Mercy above all people should know that.

With betrayal and traitors all around, Mercy’s efforts to save the village seem to almost be in vain…until her estranged husband returns. Summoned by a steward who wants more than his station in life, Earl William finds himself being drawn back into a life he’d abandoned in favor of attempting to save his people – and to a wife that he’d thought to save from himself. Still, with things growing more dangerous with each step of the way, William knows the only way to ensure his village and his wife’s safety is to remain in a place that needs him…

Amber Lin’s novel is a quick and witty read, granting readers a feisty relationship between Mercy and William. Sharp words, quick tempers, and flowing word choices draw out both the romance and the suspense in Lin’s novel. If you’re looking for something to have a quick read or something with a fair amount of romance, I highly recommend Betraying Mercy.
